Some people may say “Now how can it be 

That this lady uses the old KJV?” 

That outdated version to the past it belongs 

For new modern Bibles everyone longs! 

So many to choose from, kept right up to date. 

Most people love them, old English they hate!

 Well now my dear readers, I’ll speak from the heart. 

From my precious AV I will never depart!

Translated it was by true godly men 

From sound manuscripts they used back then

For hundreds of years it has well stood the test,

Throughout the whole world great multitudes blessed.

Alas, today, many just follow the trend,

Choosing new versions of which there’s no end! 

God wrote only one Bible, the AV I prize, 

It is so easy to memorize! 

A trustworthy version, so please join with me 

In using the God blessed, time honoured AV!

The following poem pictures an imaginary situation 

in which a young new believer is looking for a Bible,

 but what a choice, he is puzzled and confused!

Which Bible should he purchase?

      WHICH BIBLE?

As through a bookshop I wandered one day, 

An assistant I heard to a customer say

"The Bible you need sir, no problem at all, 

Just over here, they’re stacked wall to wall!"

The customer looked distinctly bemused,

 Glanced at the shelves, and declared, "I'm confused!"

The assistant responded, "Do not be surprised, 

So many new versions have now been revised;

Revisions revised, there will be many more,

 We're thinking of shortly extending the store,

To cope with the number we have to display,

 A wonderful choice you will find here today!

In varied editions these versions have we, 

There are indeed now a great many to see;

Bibles to suit every every taste and persuasion, 

versions for every age group and occasion,

Bibles for students, for teachers, or Pastor, 

Versions so easy for young ones to master.

Bibles updated as language keeps changing, 

To make them appeal they need rearranging!

Whatever your age, taste or gender you'll find, 

A Version's been printed just with YOU in mind!

You'll soon make a judgment as you look through,

Take time to discover the one right for YOU!"

The young man still puzzled glanced toward me,

 I drew from a pocket my treasured A.V. saying,

"Friend, let me help you, much is at stake 

If in this matter an error you make!

God's Word pure and true I with confidence say 

He has preserved, and we have it today.

Some think it outdated, hard to understand, 

The Authorised Version I hold in my hand;

It meets every need, the heart's deep desire;

 Persecuted it's been, even burned in the fire!

For hundreds of years it has well stood the test, 

Throughout the nations, untold multitudes blessed.

Then there came men showing their unbelief, 

Wescott and Hort among them were the chief;

Corrupt manuscripts used, thus versions arose

 Which are not trustworthy as many suppose.

To delete or add words translators feel free, 

Copyright are these versions, all different you see.

How Publishers love them, promoting the trade, 

Very large profits by them are being made!

Many who use them don't understand that 

The Devil this evil deception has planned!

So stay with the God blessed A.V. I advise, 

Do prayerfully read it, and shun Satan's lies!

My new friend exclaimed, "That's what I seek, 

I've just been converted, yes, only last week.

You’re telling the truth Sir, for clearly I see that

 I cannot judge, for God's Word judges me!

‘Thus saith the Lord' my watchword I'll make, 

And not for PERVERSIONS the A.V. forsake.

If I reverently study, He'll teach me I know, 

By His Holy Spirit, in grace I shall grow"

The astonished assistant searched all the store, 

She thought no one used the A.V. anymore!

At last she did find one, I'm happy to say, 

The young man rejoicing, then went on his way.

The Year Ahead

The Potter

                               “But now, O Lord, thou art our father: we are the clay, 

                      and thou our potter,  and we all are the work of Thine hand"

                          "Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump

                        to make one vessel unto honour, and another to dishonour?

              What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known

The Potter

An old man this potter yet truly content,

In long hours of labour his days have been spent

But his work is his joy, and each vessel designed

Follows the pattern which he has in mind.

The choice of the item is totally His,

He decides the purpose of each, so it is

A cup or a bowl, whether fancy or plain,

If not to his liking he makes it again.

Until it is perfect it just will not do,

So he breaks down the clay, beginning anew.

When conformed to his pattern the glaze is applied,

It is fired then and finished, set on one side

Soon to work it must go, and it certainly will

Render good service,  it’s task shall fulfill.

“Lord, Thou art our Potter, Thy people the clay,

Whom Thou dost fashion in Thine own sovereign way”

We are as raw clay in our Lord’s skillful hands,

He brings to perfection His own perfect plans.

“Make us and mold us dear Master we ask,

To accomplish by grace our appointed task

Vessels of mercy,  fit would we be

To bring honour and glory our Saviour to Thee.

Yet now so imperfect, one day we shall be

Conformed to Thy likeness when Thy dear Face we see”

pride and joy in his work and was seeking do his best with the material he was working with.

Faithful Pastors needed!

In Ezekiel 34:2 we read about men who were supposed to be

caring for and feeding the Lord's precious flock, but they did not care

about the sheep and were only interested in making a good living for

themselves.  This still happens of course, and often it is no easy matter

to find a Church where God's Word of truth and life is faithfully taught, and we

need to pray that God will raise up Pastors and Church leaders who will truly

care for His people, and we all have our part in caring for one another. 

So much false teaching abounds in every age, and this is certainly so today, when

everything has to be NEW and MODERN, but the Lord Jesus is THE TRUTH, and 

His Holy Word unchanged, unchanging for ever.
